Shortland Street
Shortland Street is a New Michillian soap opera broadcast by TVNM 2 since 1992.
Premise[edit | edit source]
The series, like in the real world, is about the life of doctors at the fictional Shortland Street hospital in Hawkland, and is filmed in the studios of South Northulic Pictures, its producer. The actors are predominantly New Michillian to bring a stark contrast to the Northulian soaps Neighbours and Home and Away, whose actors are predominantly Northulian and have rarely invited New Michillian actors (especially Home and Away, whose popularity always exceeded that of Neighbours). While English is the primary language of the soap, some characters speak foreign languages (Samoan, Tongan, Mandarin, Filipino, Catalan) and even the country's second official language, Maori.
Broadcast[edit | edit source]
General[edit | edit source]
TVNM International airs the series. It is also responsible for sending it to island territories in the Northulic via Northulica Television, a service of TVNM, Mediaworks, SKY and MTS, under which clean feeds of live programs and clean copies of recorded shows are beamed by satellite live so that up to twenty broadcasters covering a potential 5 million viewers can see it. Individual broadcasters record the show on time and air it later on a delay arranged by the local broadcaster. Additionally, TVNM International broadcasts episodes the same day as in the New Michillies, yet is often delayed (by half an hour or more) due to simulcasts with TVNM 1's current affairs programs.
Flarland[edit | edit source]
The series has been airing on Channel Thirteen since 1993. When the series premiered, Flarland was sixteen months behind, now it's about four months behind. Ratings are surprisingly high, as they attract about six million viewers daily, a few million less than Home and Away, as the viewing audience, usually in the early afternoon hours, mainly consists of unemployed, elderly and students on break. Episodes air at 2:30pm.
The famous sexting cliffhanger episode was screened in February 2018. The channel announcer, when the episode finished, referred to the international viral status of said cliffhanger to the extent that there were almost attempts at taking the show off the air. The regulatory body simply refused to do so.
Étienne[edit | edit source]
Although the series barely aired in metropolitan Étienne, some RÉO stations in the Northulic Ocean territories aired the series. The French dub, although made in Étienne, was sold under assistance of Television New Michillies as part of the Northulica Television system, although it's a complicated scenario due to it being in another language.
Great Scorria[edit | edit source]
The series has aired on TVGS 1 since it premiered in 1993. Great Scorria is one of Shortland Street's prime international markets.
Irenia[edit | edit source]
One of RTÉ One's most popular imports, Shortland Street has been shown continuously since it was introduced to Irenian television and has had a greater success than in Nashland.
