The Friends He Never Knew is a Flarlandian drama television series made by Couch Slave Entertainment and directed by Khyber Waterman, in an unexpected departure from his comedic works.

The series depicts the life of John Harte, who is apparently depressed and needs to cope with an alternate timeline where he managed to meet friends that he never knew in his life.

Premise[edit | edit source]

John Harte is already witnessing middle-aged depression despite not being 40. He is married, has two children and doesn't seem to fit in the concept of society. Upon stumbling by a booth of a scientist, he begins viewing things that he shouldn't see.

Characters[edit | edit source]

  • John Harte: Aged 29, he is a "depressed adult of his generation". He is part of Flarland's Work 40+ campaign despite being underage and works at a bank.

Episodes[edit | edit source]

Production[edit | edit source]

Work on the series, at the time known internally within CSE circles as "Untitled Drama Series", began upon its announcement in September 2014. There was a number of issues, including the Save Channel A campaign that was still going strong. Initially the series was supposed to be aired on FBC 1, however, due to the escalation of an ideological crisis between Khyber and the FBC, plans for the series were halted and there were no plans of a possible premiere.

Release[edit | edit source]

The series premiered on October 12, 2018 on Channel Thirteen. Episodes premiered on the following day on Flarland TV abroad, as well as on associated television channels in overseas territories, often on a same-day structure.

Internationally, the series was sold to Netflix in over forty countries. This was apparently an obstacle for Flarland TV showings as the series, in Khyber's own words, "doesn't match the kind of reality people in certain countries feel like watching, as they might not have a subscription". On linear television, the series was sold to Caledonian Television in Saria and the Special Broadcasting System in Northulia.
