FBC 1 is the oldest television channel in Flarland and the main channel of the Flarlandian Broadcasting Corporation. Currently the channel is placed fourth in ratings.

History[edit | edit source]

Regular television transmissions started in Wembley on 1 October 1950. Broadcasts usually lasted up to two hours. The FBC decided to go one step ahead and introduce television advertising right from the launch day, as means to attract more viewers. Most programs were directly sponsored, as was the standard until the early 60s.

In this phase, although there was a slight dominance of local programming, including live news bulletins, television relied on Sierram imported films and television series, including Pitcairn Avenue and I Love Lucy, which were among the most profitable imports of the first few years on the FBC's television service.

Broadcasts were limited to Wembley until February 1951 when the FBC inaugurated the Northern Center in White Castle, allowing the FBC to branch into regional programming, an idea emulated over from radio, and would later be copied by IBC.

Throughout the 50s, the FBC made several television series that were popular even though there still was a paucity of television sets. Such series included The Investigator, Crime Stories and Mr. Wilkinson's Ghost Theater. Early imports included I Love Lucy and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

The FBC started a second channel in 1959. The channel was renamed FBC 1, but was still known as FBC Television on air in some capacity until the mid-1960s.

In October 1968, FBC 1 started regular color broadcasts.
