YRC Television is the television service of the Yawnaro Radio Council.

History[edit | edit source]

Television equipment arrived to Yawmaro in 1986 and broadcasts started on March 7th, 1987. Initially broadcasts were limited to Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays due to "economical and leisure issues", this meant that even though there would be television on working days, it would be a source of distraction for the local population, which at the time averaged 775, with roughly one sixth of the population not being native to Yawnaro, mostly workers from Eumoritown, the Henleys or the mainland itself. The date was selected to symbolize the thirtieth anniversary of the Yawnaro Radio Council and broadcast from 7pm to 9pm on weeknights and 6pm to 10pm on weekends, featuring local programs on Sundays and imports on the remaining days.

In 1994, YRC started week-long television broadcasts: five hours on weekdays and eight on weekends. Local television productions have also improved somewhat, to the extent that it won a few awards. In 1999, it dropped Panorama in favor of Thirteen National News as Panorama was being relayed on Flarland TV live. This move mirrored the launch of Eco-Paradise Television, who claimed that the channel would search for a news alternative.

The channel started HD operations in 2014 in time for the World Cup. The first locally-produced HD programs were YFF News, produced by the Yawnaro Football Federation.

Currently YRC TV starts on weekdays at 1pm with the afternoon edition of Thirteen National News and some local programming and ends at around midnight after the repeat of the 7:30 Thirteen National News. The channel starts earlier on weekends at 9am.

In January 2021 to cut costs the service started operating at 6:45pm having an average time allotment of close to 90 minutes, growing over time. On August 30, 2021, the starting time was pushed back to 6:30pm averaging 95 minutes. As of January 2022 YRC Television operates a service averaging 102 minutes with the aim of trying to surpass the two-hour mark by March. The reasons for the schedule chopping include financial difficulties poised by the pandemic and energy issues. Exceptions are made on special occasions.
