Eumoritown is an overseas territory of Flarland.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The name Eumoritown was adopted in 1792, shortly after the island was annexed by the AOFS. The prefix comes from Lord Eumer, but the name was corrupted to "Eumori". The "-town" suffix was because it was a town within the domain of the AOFS. These days the "Eumori" prefix is widely used in businesses.

History[edit | edit source]

It is known that the first recorded human settlements in Eumoritown were in 926, as told in old Ashtalaian literature that represented the travels held by the northern Ashtalaic people of the time.

Vydorian occupation[edit | edit source]

In 1625, the island, along with the modern-day territories of Yawnaro and the Henleys, were occupied by the Great Vydorian Kingdom. The island was henceforth renamed New Pirmaja (Jauna Pirmāja). The name was changed in 1665 to Ipnecība.

Flarlandian control[edit | edit source]

When Flarland annexed Harchakobor in 1791, the Flarlandians started international colonization. By the end of the year, following the creation of the Atlantean Ocean Fishmongers' Society, Eumoritown became annexed by Flarland. Successive changes to the law made it become an overseas territory of Flarland, following the dissolution of the AOFS and the veto of joining the Henleys.

Eumoritown spent the better part of the next two centuries in relative poverty, with numerous periods of back and forth migration. The discovery of tea plantations at the end of the 19th century helped boost its meager economy.

Modernization[edit | edit source]

In 1984, Eumoritown's telecommunications infrastructure had improved. The new ideology was "improvement of life". There were plans to extend the small urbanization in Crown Harbor to much of northern Eumoritown in order to help the poor population. Television was introduced in 1987 and the University of Eumoritown was opened in 1990.

Current situation[edit | edit source]

Currently Eumoritown is led by Charles Chambers who won the 2021 elections. The territory underwent a series of ecological processes

Government and politics[edit | edit source]

Eumoritown is an overseas territory that has its own government, even a parliament with 40 seats.

Administrative divisions[edit | edit source]

Since the 2013 local elections, Eumoritown consists of two Control Units (or CUs), merged from the previous six. North Eumoritown includes the former capital unit of Crown Harbor and serves as the de facto capital of Eumoritown while South Eumoritown was created from the Docks district.

Culture and society[edit | edit source]

Education[edit | edit source]

Education is free and compulsory between the ages of five and 16. The island has three primary schools for students of age four to 11, one comprehensive school for all grades and a university, one of the most remote in the world.

The Education and Employment Directorate also offers programs for students with special needs, vocational training, adult education, evening classes, and distance learning. The island has a public library and a mobile library service which operates weekly in rural areas. The Flarlandian national curriculum is adapted for local use.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

Population[edit | edit source]

Currently, taking into account the e-Census of 2020, Eumoritown's population is of 37.646 inhabitants. Most of the population consists of descendants of Flarlandian migrants that were brought in by the AOFS, yet the ancient people still survive, yet the numbers are declining.

Languages[edit | edit source]

English is the official language, though about 200 people speak Vydorian, the language spoken prior to the annexation by the AOFS.

Infrastructure[edit | edit source]

Telecommunications[edit | edit source]

Eumoritown has an advanced telecommunications infrastructure. It has internet connection from a submarine cable that stretches from the eastern Henleys and into Eumoritown and Yawnaro.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Cars and bicycles are allowed in Eumoritown. Less than 20% own a car and many people travel by foot.

In 2000, a supposed "train" began circulating on the island. The tongue-in-cheek train was commissioned to deliver cargo.

Sports[edit | edit source]

Eumoritown has its own football federation. It entered FIFA in 2001, until then the Eumoritonian team was a part of the Henleyan team.

From 2020 to 2023, it has also been the temporary host of the Yawnaroan Football Federation so that the team can be eligible for playing abroad during the current situation, and to prevent infections in Yawnaro.

Media[edit | edit source]

Main article: Media of Eumoritown

The government broadcaster is Eumorimedia, created under the 2011 Public Services Act, replacing the old Eumoritonian Broadcasting Corporation in 2012. It operates three radio stations and two television channels. It competes against the Eco-Paradise Broadcasting Corporation which in itself operates two radio stations and two television channels, one of which is a sports channel.

In popular culture[edit | edit source]

A 2007 web game, Nicholas' Weird Adventure 2 (unplayable in that website since 2021), features a fictionalized Eumoritown. The game received good reviews from the Eumoritonians.

Charles Mesure's Eumoritonian heritage was a common target for parody on Media for Dinner.
