Television in Port Merwin
The following are the main television stations receivable in Port Merwin.
PMBC Television[edit | edit source]
Oldest television station, owned by the Port Merwin Broadcasting Corporation, PMBC TV started broadcasts on February 12, 1989. Until the Kiriaki te Weine administration it was an independent news source and had little to no government influence. Was known as PM One Television during the Tongo Hiti government (2001 to 2005).
PMBC TV operated on channel 7 between 1989 and the 2011 analog shutdown.
TV Lai[edit | edit source]
Owned by Pakifan-Merwinian businessman Peter Lai, TVL was set up in 2006 to provide an alternative to the two biggest TV channels in the territory, broadcast on channel 10 until the 2011 analog shutdown, current digital LCN is channel 3. Carries TVNM 1 News daily at 7pm.
Waka Television[edit | edit source]
Started broadcasts on channel 5 on October 10, 1994. A few months later (April 1995 according to some estimates) the channel moved to channels 5 and 10 broadcasting the same signal simultaneously from the same transmitter (7 was reserved for PMBC TV). In 2001 (or 2002, reports vary) it lost its channel 10 simulcast (used as an occasional tandem sports service). Once considered to be the most-watched TV channel (using the slogan The Quality Shows), currently, and despite a rebrand in October 2020, has been considered as "a sign of the downfall of the Merwinian TV industry".
Finally in August 2021 Waka Television shut down its operations for good after nearly 27 years, due to declining viewership.
Success TV[edit | edit source]
Created as a digital platform in May 2020, Success won a bid for the frequencies of the former Waka Television and began operations on August 2, 2021. Programming is an emulation of what Waka TV was in its last few years, but with substantial changes. For a start two programs that got cancelled in 2019 (Panic and Port Merwin in Concert) resumed under the new channel, the aim is to make the channel a profitable youth entertainment property.
The news staff is limited and consists of a presenter and two cameramen. Nevertheless it broadcast the Hidden Debts (aka Hiddebts) trials live.
Flarland TV Network[edit | edit source]
Broadcast on channel 3 since the inception of the PM studios in November 1991.
