Port Merwin (Merwinese: Ha'etorae) is one of Flarland's five overseas territories, located to the south-east of Great Scorria and to the north-east of Northulia.

History[edit | edit source]

It is known that ethnic Polynesians migrated to Port Merwin around 800 CE. They were descendants of ethnic Tahitians who became isolated on the island and created a stable seaport.

Port Merwin was in a hostile state when the first Eurectipherian missionaries arrived. At the time, Flarlandian vessels were arriving towards the territory and accepted the deal, owing to Flarland's irreligious policy. As a consequence, the Flarlandians set up the city of Port Merwin (later to become the name of the territory) and founded the Northulic Ocean Fishmonger Society (NOFS) in February 1818.

The NOFS was defeated - by a close call - by the Hartungian Empire, who attempted to colonize the islands following their conquest of Hamoa. The crisis was settled in 1911 when the NOFS was relinquished and the Flarlandian government stayed in charge of the territory, now renamed Port Merwin.
