Norteguay
Norteguay, oficially the Central Republic of Norteguay (Spanish: República Central de Norteguay) is a country in mainland Central Sierra. The country has been led by Elías Dario since 2018.
In the past, it was one of the six states of the United Central Sierran Republics.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
In the Magotán language, the term wáy means "water". The term came to use after the 1731 creation of the provinces of Norteguay and Surguay under the Castillans
History[edit | edit source]
Long before Castillan colonization reached Central Sierra, the general area was populated by native Bilwi, Pamata and Chanayes tribes
By the early 16th century, the Castillans set foot on Huasco and Chugatenala and arrived to what is now Norteguay, in a successful attempt to colonize the continent
The 19th century brought forth a series of secessionist movements, and in Central Sierra there was either the chance of becoming a part of Huasco or further emancipating the south-eastern lands to create the UCSR. However tensions arose among the members of the federation and Norteguay was the first to achieve independence.
