MTV (Hopeland)
MTV is a Hopelandian English-language entertainment channel owned by IBS Corporation's joint-venture with ViacomCBS (ViacomIBS) and acts as the local version of the Sierran channel of the same name. Much of its programming is derived from its Sierran parent. Broadcasts started on August 1, 1986.
History[edit | edit source]
Comtam started a music channel in 1981 and stopped rebroadcasting MTV content in 1984, this was due to a legal dispute between the entities involved.
On August 1, 1986, MTV launched on cable networks nationwide. The initial decision was to sign on with Video Killed the Radio Star, but executives wanted something more "contemporary". Instead they selected Money for Nothing from Dire Straits, whose at the time cutting-edge music video was considered fitting. Such feat was repeated with the launch of MTV Eurectipheria the following year.
Criticism[edit | edit source]
MTV has been criticized in recent years for airing Ridiculousness most of the day. They have also been known to do this during events such as their 35th anniversary in 2019 when they aired Ridiculousness for 24 hours. Hashtags such as #RidiculousnessRuinsMTV have been trending on Twitter as of recent.
