NOTE: This is a predominantly informal article. It serves as a guide for people to understand the lore of Nara.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Nara's lore is similar to that of the real world. However, there are many differences in various ways.

Countries[edit | edit source]

  • As you might have noticed, most countries in Nara are avatars of real-world countries (Correspondence is the answer). The United States of Sierra for the USA, Alavia for Russia, Orience for Japan, and so on. However, not every country is like that.
  • The United Kingdom doesn't exist. Its four constituent countries are four separate countries, all of them sovereign. The term "Great Britain" exists in the minds of some people who want a unification of the four countries on the Britannian archipelago, but even that seems impossible. The countries in Britain are entirely equivalent to the island of Great Britain in the real world, yet Irenia is a wholly-unified Ireland instead of being divided between a part of a foreign country and a sovereign country.
  • Joseon is planning a major overhaul in the middle of 2018, after dialog talks between it and Daehan have come into fruition.
  • Lenapore is not just the city-state that Singapore is. It is larger, its land area seems to be the equivalent of most of West Malaysia, and its territory is spread over two large islands. The population is at the same level as IRL Australia, at 25 million (Northulia has 52 million).
    • Also no PAP rule for too long and with a lot more freedoms than Singapore.
  • And then we have a few countries that are entirely fictional: North Arlesbury, the Michillies, Hopeland, Great Scorria and so on.
    • And also the Ashtalaic subcontinent.
  • There is an extra continent, Tyntalsya.
  • There are about 215 countries that are members of the Association of Nations, about 20 more than the UN in real life. This includes Plenestine and Xiaowan, but Keftovar isn't a member.

Languages[edit | edit source]

  • With there being more English-speaking countries in Eurectipheria, the English language is of greater relevance to the old continent.
  • The IRL American orthography is more common. It is also the standard form of English in some international organizations like the Association of Nations. The British orthography is used in the Britannic countries.
  • Portuguese is an official language in Keithland, largely because of Realese immigrants who settled there in the 18th century.
  • Japanese is the official language of Ishigaki. Ishigaki is in the ASESON, so it's also an official language of the organization. Because of mass Oriencian and Ishigakian immigration in the later half of the 18th century, Japanese became an official language in Lenapore.
    • Speaking of which, Cantonese and other dialects of Chinese other than Mandarin aren't banned by broadcast media. Lee Kwan Yew was detained from the government in 1984 and the Speak Mandarin Campaign was abolished.
      • There is one country that has banned Cantonese outright from its media, Porowon. But then again, the population is of barely over a million, so why bother?

Ethnic groups[edit | edit source]

  • Merpeople exist in Nara as immortal beings who live amongside humans and over ages have assimilated the way of living like humans.
    • Likewise there is a high interest in merculture among humans.
    • In the real world, you can call gay merpeople as "merbear", but in some Naran countries this might lead to confusion with actual merbears. The accurate term is "mergay/mergays" ("gaymer" is a term used for gay gamers).
  • Some ethnic groups unique to this world include the Ashtalaic people and the Lasgra people.
    • Do Yawnaroans count as being Ashtalaic?
      • Indded they are, as they are proto-Ashtalaic by nature.

Organizations[edit | edit source]

  • The United Nations are known here as the Association of Nations. Its functions are basically the same.
    • You're already picturing the names of some of the organizations: Aonicef, AONESCO, and so on...
  • The Commonwealth of Nations doesn't exist. Due to various Anglophone countries colonizing places in other continents, there's no need for an Anglophone organization led by the Queen. Instead we have The Anglophony, technically a broader organization. Some countries that are part of the Commonwealth IRL and have equivalents in Nara are members (like Hindustan) and others that aren't IRL are here (like Nosghel).

Politics[edit | edit source]

  • Mostly the same as the real world, but since there are more "powers", the influences tend to change every now and then.
  • Hopeland supports democratic parties but doesn't support "the communist left". For decades the country has been operated by the center-right and there were hardly any complaints.
  • Most countries that are inspired by real ones have to follow what the real one says. Like the elections in the United States. Or those in Huamba where UNITH should have won and MPLH claims to have rigged it.

Technology[edit | edit source]

  • Technology is at the same level as the real world.
  • Some avatars of real-world countries introduced television a few years before their real-life counterparts did.
  • There are still some "anti-technological" societies, even in Flarland, but they seem to rely more on linear television, old phones, etc.
    • Partly because of this, OTT platforms aren't popular in some areas.
      • Then they complain about Disney's selfishness over Disney+.
        • Or any other streaming service that has had similar problems in 2022.
  • Lenovo still exists but doesn't own Motorola like IRL.
    • Instead the Lenaporean conglomerate Kenroi owns it.

Music[edit | edit source]

  • It's basically the same

Literature[edit | edit source]

  • The same again?
  • Some countries are pushing towards physical books again

Media[edit | edit source]

  • The New Michillies have a decent television industry, thanks in part to the fact that New Michillies On Air helps fund an abundance of cultural programs, most of them tend to air on TVNM 6 and are TVNM International's chance for survival.
  • Mediacorp is less of an abusive monopolist yet is still a huge corporation. Due to investments in foreign countries, it did overtake the Nosghelian giant ABS-CBN, as far as the gross money of Mediacorp's total businesses is compared to ABS-CBN's domestic interests.
  • Disney shuts down less channels, however there is still some greed left to forcibly convert people to streaming. Hopeland is the biggest opposition.

Sports[edit | edit source]

  • The first FIFA World Cup was held in 1922. FIFA was founded at the same time as IRL, and the first World Cup was meant to promote stability following the effects of the war, which was predominantly Eurectipherian.
  • There are some sports of an indigenous nature that are fully fictional, one of them is Araka.
  • Impact Wrestling was always known as Impact Wrestling. You would have thought that Television North Arlesbury would have sued them for having their initials standing for Total Nonstop Action, roight?
