Yorkville
Yorkville is the capital of Yonland, a state in central-southwestern Northulia. It was built in 1871 upon the orders of Michillian colonial ruler Michael of York and currently houses an estimated 850,000 inhabitants, roughly three quarters of the state's population.
Yorkville has become Northulia's western industrial capital in the middle of the 20th Century, aided by its status as a purpose-built city.
History[edit | edit source]
In the 1860s, there was a dispute over a part of land claimed by the Nashlandian colonies of Westhulia (now Western Northulia) and Southern Northulia. The claimed area was annexed by the Michillians whose main intuition was to give competition to the Nashlandians in the Northulian continent. Having already laid their steps in a future sovereign country, the New Michillies, the colonial empire settled on a battle and decided to annex the territories.
At the center of this dispute was the city of Yorkville whose initial purpose was to be a separatist capital. His plans were to make Yorkville the capit of the Republic of Yonland, but the Colonian government successively backfired these attempts.
Work on Yorkville started in February 1871, yet was supposedly finished in June of the same year, when it was innaugurated as a disputed territory on 7 June, and had a population of 20,000 - all for a city that had little to no stores and factories. When Michael of York died in 1894, the Northulian government made a series of referendums regarding the future of the territory. In October of the same year, such a referendum for the creation of the state of Yonland was consodered favorable, with 68% voting in favor. The Northulian government turned Yonland into a separate colony, basically a condominium between Northulia and the Michillies - on 9 November, using the borders claimed by Michael.
When Northulia was freed from the colonial rule and became a federated republic, Yorkville was the city where the economical reforms had more effect: the government would plan on industrializing the city, turning it into a regional industrial hub.
By the time a series of industrial reforms took place in 1946, the population figures - formerly sitting in at a margin of 80,000 upon the declaration of the Federated States - has multiplied several times to an estimated 320,000.
In 2014, after years of speculation, the bicycle park opened.
