The Xalxas Broadcasting Corporation (XBC) is the de facto public broadcaster of the Xalxas Autonomy of Lenapore.

History[edit | edit source]

In the early 40s, a radio transmitter was built under Oriencian occupation as some sort of relayer of the radio service, at the time controlled by the THK. When Orience relinquished control of Lenapore, the official Xalxas station was built and broadcasts began in 1946. Initially it was a direct service of Radio Lenapore.

In 1962, when Lenapore became a sovereign country, the legislature decided to divide its operations from those of the newly-created LRT. As a consequence, the entity proceeded into a spin-off process and became the Xalxas Broadcasting Corporation, launched on the same day. Television did not open until March 1979, using one of the two assigned frequencies of the Rangeedu television transmitter.

During this time, the autonomy lived under high poverty, and the government was trying to relieve the efforts without Lenaporean effort. As technical limitations in the transmitter allowed it not to broadcast signals from channels 8, 10 and later 12, XBC Television signed a deal with LBC to rebroadcast selected programming. During the 80s, 20% of the daily schedule was Xalxan and the remaining 80% consisted of LBC "imports". This was allieved when the UHF band was installed with three more channels being transmitted.

XBC got its own budget in 1989, in time for future improvements to the Rangeedu transmitter. The arrival of the remaining LBC channels on the UHF band saw XBC's television service witness an expansion of local content and improved signal reach over both radio and television. Under new regulations, it was to have a separate structure similar to the prosperous Handakian broadcasting.

XBC did carry some Prime 12 programming between 1995 and 2000. Technical limitations in the Rangeedu transmitter made reception of both Prime and Premiere 12 impossible. A similar situation occurred when LPBS began television broadcasts in 1999. By the launch of Vasantham Central in 2000, Tamil-language programming had left. Eventually the XBC moved its headquarters for the first time and lent its former ones to Pangai Entertainment.

In 2017, XBC moved to new headquarters. These are among the most technologically-advanced in Lenapore, even in a poorer region like Xalxas. The studio is enabled to produce content in high definition even though broadcasts in HD are far from reality now.
