Timor is a sovereign country in Sondria, yet is sometimes classified as being a country in Northulia. It is a Lusophone country located in the south-east of the Hindolanian archipelago. It is one two Sondrian countries to have Portuguese as an official language, the other being Nosghel.

History[edit | edit source]

Civil war[edit | edit source]

Shortly after Timor became a sovereign country, the Communist forces occupied the western half of the island. They were supportive of all communist countries and Suharto's government in Hindolania. East Timor was capitalist and received support from capitalist countries. Nonetheless, Northulia still exploited the Timorese oil and gas reserves regardless of what side of the country's territorial waters were they located.

Unification[edit | edit source]

The West Timorese communist government was capitulated in 1995, five years after the plans to dissolve the Soviet Union cut off the primary vein to West Timor's economy. Karto was deported to Huamba and the Republic of East Timor was oficially renamed Republic of Timor.

In May 2002, Timor joined the Association of Southeast Sondrian Nations.

Government and politics[edit | edit source]

Timor is a parliamentary republic, electing a president and a prime-minister.

The only state media is Rádio e Televisão Timorense. It operates radio services since the 1950s and television services since 1995. RTVT operates one radio station. A second service, Antena 2, was on the cards before the plan got scrapped in 2011.

The three private television channels are Mediatimor (owned by Mediacorp since 2018), Timor Agora TV and educational channel TVET. The channels have established close ties with SIC, ABS-CBN, GMA, LBTV and Mediacorp. GMN is a general channel, Timor Agora is a news channel and TVET is an educational channel, which also relays programming from Televisão Nosgheliana and SNN.

Cable television is provided by telecommunications company Timor Telecom, through a 13-channel service. The Portuguese-language cable channels are provided legally from Nosghel. Some Northulian channels as well as RTR Internacional and NTR World are also offered.
