Thak
Thak is a term that reportedly emerged in the Ammer Valley. Its usage was reportedly undocumented but sources believe that the term means "more", "under" or "against".
The term is also used as part of the regional phrase "no thak, no jack" meaning "silence" or "not one sound".
Thak, however, can be capitalized, referring in particular to Ashtalaians in Flarland. This term was popularized in the Channel A series Acrylic Dreams, where one of the characters had Ashtalaian neighbors and called them "thaks". The word reportedly became pejorative after late 2013, reportedly due to the ban on Flarlandian television relays in Ashtalaia and its usage has since been broadened. A Flarlandian radio station (The Song) ran into trouble after playing "thak music" (Ashtalaian songs from the 1991 Land Wars that were against Flarland) in response to the usage of Soboran music in two shootings in 2019, saying that these songs were "violent in nature". At the time of the minor conflict, the word "thak" wasn't in widespread use, especially in the purported context of being against Ashtalaians.
More recently, the word was used pejoratively in a completely different sense, referring to people from hard-hit areas of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as "Belmontians", in reference to most people who believe to be "thaks" being from there. The creators of Acrylic Dreams deny that the word "thak" had such pejorative meanings.
