The Tesopan Broadcasting Authority (TBA) is the state-run radio and television broadcaster of Tesopo. It operates four radio stations, two television channels and a website in English and native languages.

History[edit | edit source]

Radio was introduced to colonial Tesopo in 1951. It was an independent service that wasn't controlled by the Michillian Broadcasting Corporation and used royal subsidies to operate. When the king was deposed, Radio Tesopo was renamed Tesopan Information Agency (Tesinform) and merged with the royal press agency.

During the military dictatorship that dominated the first years of Tesopan independence, Radio Tesinform ran on a shoestring, providing up to two daily hours of radio transmission, mainly for the provision of news.

In 1968 it was accused of false reporting towards Buritan's president Charles Taylor.

When Waliah Thaddies was elected president of Tesopo, Tesinform was divided into the Tesopan News Agency and the Tesopan Broadcasting Authority.

Radio 2 launched in 1981.

A revision of the services was held in the early 90s. This included the launch of a television service. Up until then, Tesopans were illegally watching M-Net from South Bulungi, and a license to broadcast the channel was considered illegal. M-Net subsequently retaliated and launched a terrestrial relay station in October 1994 (said station was decommissioned in 2002). In August 1994, TBA Television was launched. A second channel followed on April 20, 2015. Both channels are available on DSTV too.
