Television in important to the Malayanese Union. Terrestrial television viewing was estimated at 20% of total television households in 2011. IPTV is offered by Telecom Melayen. Digital terrestrial television was gradually spreading in 2011, with the switchover formerly concluded in 2019.

The Malayanese Union has twelve domestic free-to-air channels: seven government owned, three privately owned, one of mixed ownership. Currently Malayan is the dominant language.

In 1961, a television station was introduced in the Nashlandian side of the island on channel 7. In March 1962, the independent side (achieved independence in 1959 after losing its status as a trust territory of the Michillies) started broadcasting Televishen Melayen on channel 9.
