Television in North Arlesbury was introduced in 1956 (test broadcasts) by Television North Arlesbury (now part of the North Arlesburian Broadcasting Corporation), which held the nationwide television monopoly until October 1992. Regular broadcasting was introduced on March 7, 1957. Color transmissions were introduced on March 7, 1980. Digital terrestrial television was introduced in 2007.

North Arlesburian television is regulated by the Media and Communication Regulatory Entity (MRCE). In 2017, Four was the ratings leader with 21.0% share while TV3 and TNA 1 had 17.1% and 12.4%, respectively.

History[edit | edit source]

1950s[edit | edit source]

In December 1955, the government approved the launch of the television service, led by Television North Arlesbury. The first test transmissions were held at the People's Fair in Plymouth in September 1956. On March 7, 1957, TNA made its first regular broadcast at 20:30. Broadcasts ran from about an hour and a half to two hours.

1960s[edit | edit source]

In the early 60s, television coverage continued to grow, but sales of television sets was slower than expected. Some villages had at least one television set, and the primary reason was that in the early days of television, sets were expensive to own.

TNA grew its output, by 1963 it broadcast the Eurectivision Song Contest for the first time and made its first participation in the following year.

1970s[edit | edit source]

1980s[edit | edit source]

Television North Arlesbury started color broadcasts in 1980, however, by the end of the year, TNA's rise was affected by the killing of the prime minister and the crisis in South Arlesbury. Following initial news and failed plans to invade North Arlesbury, TNA began to stabilize a little, by reinvesting in their serial division. 1981's energy savings plan had forbidden any kind of television broadcasts after 11pm. Daytime broadcasts were later forbidden on weekdays.

1990s[edit | edit source]

TV3's first broadcast was on October 6, 1992. TNA's monopoly in the industry was broken, having lasted for 35 years.

Cable[edit | edit source]

Cable television arrived in larger cities in 1994. There were two companies, CTV backed by North Arlesbury Telecom and Intercable, backed by UPC, which in turn backed regional companies. At the same time, a Keithlandian company, Cogeco, began investing on the cable network and created Cablevision.

In 2008, NAT's Idea acquired the regional cable television companies, forcing them to switch to the Idea network.
