Television arrived to Chichetya in 1962 when Rupavahini (CRC) statted broadcasting.

History[edit | edit source]

The first television experiments were conducted in 1957 by members of the Letchingtang Technical University, based on exoeriments that has occurred a few years earlier in Khaoland. The government quickly began a period of discussion over whether or not there woumd be a television service. Eventually it was approved in 1960. The Chichetya Rupavahini Corporation was founded. The first broadcast was on February 15, 1962. Broadcasts were on the Letchingtang transmitter on channel 9. Initially there were few television sets and at least one in every five hundred people owned a television set, as they were deemed expensive. The few sets were sold exclusively at the Sok Jai Electric Company's store. Rupavahini operated for two hours every evening. A second transmitter was built in Sokhang and Rupavahini started operating on said transmitter on November 23, 1963.

During the first years, television was operating on a significantly poor infrastructure, the government had planned to roll more transmitters in a plan given at the time Rupavahini, but television was still considered to be expensive and not a primary priority for the people. It also relied heavily on foreign programming, usually from English-speaking countries, and initially without subtitles.

Data from 1965 claims that one in ten Chichetyans already owned a television set.

In 1974, Chichetya's second television channel, Akhana, owned by the Chichetyan army, went to air. The initial purpose was for Akhana to be available in army facilities, but it quickly gained attraction due to its exclusive coverage of Chichetyan fighting. The introduction of the Ringhang satellites (later owned by Ringhang Television) saw Chichetyan television signals expand to remote areas and new regional facilities were built.
