Team KRA is a Flarlandian animated television series created by Khyber Waterman of Couch Slave Entertainment, based on his short-lived 2000 comic series of the same name.

Team KRA premiered on FBC 3 on July 19, 2003, and also premiered on Channel 14. Initially, only four seasons were planned, but the popularity of the series led to the FBC ordering a fifth season. The final half-hour episode of the show, "Things Change", aired on January 16, 2006; it was later followed by a TV movie, Team KRA: International Diplomatic Mistake of the Year, that premiered on September 15, 2006, serving as the series finale.

Team KRA became one of FBC 3's most beloved and critically acclaimed series. During its run, the series was nominated for three Flarlandian Golden Globe Awards (Best Animated Series) and one Film in Flarland Award. Spin-off media included comics, DVD releases, video games, music albums, and collectible toys. Reruns have aired on the FBC until 2015 at latest.

Plot[edit | edit source]

The series is set in the fictitious KRA Detectives Agency. The agency is led by Khyber himself in what seem to be really low-key facilities. They are called to mission by Dr. Paul Southgate, a human spy.

Khyber, Rhett and Arrow travel to solve mysteries that become complex to understand as the episode stretches further.

Characters[edit | edit source]

  • Khyber Waterman (as himself): Leader of the KRA Detectives Agency. Self-proclaimed "Merman Sherlock" and the brains behind the agency, Khyber's fixed catchphrase is "I still lay hunger for danger".
  • Rhett Waterman (as himself): Vice-leader of the agency. Responsible for covert operations and literature.
  • Arrow Waterman (as herself): In charge of the Female Operations crew, which is limited to herself.
  • Dr. Paul Southgate (voiced by John Kerley): The man that gives Khyber instructions.
  • Chester Matthews: Khyber's laptop who seemed to posess the soul of Chester Matthews himself in 1996. In a similar way to the computer from Courage the Cowardly Dog, Chester sometimes talks to Khyber and goes berserk.
  • Adonis Michael (voiced by Matthew Pelphrey)
  • Eileen Bewes: Rhett Waterman's fictional love interest. A mermaid spy discovered late in season 1 by the KRA Detectives Agency, she is known to posess weapons of physical espionage.

Season 1 concentrates mainly on Khyber.

Chester Matthews loses his battery, but not his voice, in the middle of a critical research operation Khyber is handling about Stranger 150. There seems to be a massive theft of batteries in Wembley.

Season 3[edit | edit source]

Season 3 concentrates on Chester Matthews.

  • 9: Fresh Chemicals from Hopeland

Season 4[edit | edit source]

  • 4: Khyber, Rhett, Arrow and Chester's Mad Journey to Harchakobor
  • 13: The End? (part 1 July 2, 2005; part 2 July 9; part 3 July 16)

Season 5[edit | edit source]

Season 5 concentrates on Rhett and Arrow.

  • 13: Things Change (January 16, 2006)

Last episode of the series. In many ways it's an episode that is widely cried out by fans of the show as "not the finale we wanted".

International Diplomatic Mistake of the Year[edit | edit source]

Lost episode[edit | edit source]

The lost episode was accessible exclusively on the now-defunct Requiem of Whirlplash website at first and was later included on DVD box sets. It did not make a television premiere until September 2008 when Channel 14 showed it as part of Khyber at 25.

The episode is basically an unfinished episode that was discarded.

Production[edit | edit source]

Khyber Waterman said in a public interview in October 2003 that the reason why the show came into being was because he already had a successful comic, but the "comical detective" aesthetic was failing. His ambition was to revive it, as a webtoon, but he had realized that Khyber would earn more money and recognition if the series was on television.

His cash grab at the time (and for the company outside of Channel A) was Animated Diversions, FBC 3's Saturday night block of local cartoons.

Many people demand a sixth season, though it is unclear if this will be a possibility. The show's art style has been replicated for an upcoming direct-to-DVD film that confronts their counterparts with the ones seen on Team KRA.
