South Arlesbury
South Arlesbury is a country in Eurectipheria.
History[edit | edit source]
Prosperity[edit | edit source]
Crisis and Pro Tect's plan[edit | edit source]
Richard Perston-Oates won the November 1980 presidential election and quickly turned the country into overdrive. On November 14th, he started a plan that on December 1st, 1980, South Arlesbury would enter its Year Zero and that further details were given on his planned Crystal Night.
The Crystal Night[edit | edit source]
The Crystal Night eventually ignited Year Zero, a political notion that would destroy South Arlesbury's economical development. Thousands of people were now forced to live in a mass de-industralization of the country. The population, once that of 5.2 millon, has been spared down to 1.1 million. Most were either killed or migrated illegally to other countries. As a consequence, South Arlesbury began closing its borders and the infrastructure was heavily damaged.
Pro Tect's policies were strict: almost everyone had to be dressed up in uniform, there was a lot of bans and also a famine, as Pro Tect's "food" was served to the masses as the new national food, despite its taste it was considered to be "disgusting". During most of the regime, clothing was also primarily restricted.
Four days later, South Arlesburian forces hijacked the airplane where North Arlesbury's prime minister was going. The two countries started a proxy war.
Policies against the USS[edit | edit source]
Among Pro Tect's policies was a special policty against the consumption of Sierran products and broadcast of Sierran films and television series.
Repeal of the policies[edit | edit source]
Democracy[edit | edit source]
North Arlesburian troops successfully assassinated Pro Tect on December 4, 1989. North Arlesbury quickly initiated a plan to redemocratize the country by removing all remains of the former regime.
National Resistance Government[edit | edit source]
Between April and June 1990, the North Arlesburian government secretly financed a political party that was founded in June 1989, National Resistance, that unilaterally became the de facto winner of the 1990 legistlative elections. While tensions were kept low, the South Arlesburian government insisted on a reunification policy under the NR government, but failed within weeks of doing such.
Up until 1993, the country was a "democratic anti-Communist country". On February 24, 1993, there was a series of protests next to the North Arlesburian embassy and the government was left vacant and the National Resistance was dissolved.
New political crisis[edit | edit source]
On May 15, 2018, the South Arlesburian government entered a new political crisis after North Arlesburian and Michillian protesters began physically beating the president.
Sexit[edit | edit source]
The country left the Eurectipherian Union in an emergency referendum in 2019 and oficially left the EU on January 31, 2020.
Pandemic, New Social Order and new political crisis post-2020[edit | edit source]
Shortly after Sexit was formalized, the pandemic hurt South Arlesbury's economy and society. In June 2020, groups linked to allegedly extremist movements formed the South Arlesburian New Social Order under the basis of the North Arlesburian one that was illegalized in November 2019. The group acts as being nationalist and populist and demands the permanent closing of its borders with its three neighbor countries.
Soon, they started disseminating misinformation about the pandemic, calling it "plandemic" and even allowed Skyway TV to screen the controversial conspiracy film Plandemic, much to the dismay of the anti-government SABC.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
The country is as of 2021 considered to be homogenous. 99.8% of the population is white, an increase from 96% in 2018. This is due to heavy discrimination under the false NSO rule.
In the past, up until 1980, Koknis used to make up a quarter of the population, most were killed or fled to Solenial in the wake of the Crystal Night.
The current population is estimated to be of 2.85 million.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Film[edit | edit source]
South Arlesbury is one of the lowest film producers in Eurectipheria. 2017 figures say that less than one percent of films consumed are from South Arlesbury. Before 1980, the film industry was active.
Media[edit | edit source]
South Arlesbury is the most-censored country within the Eurectipherian Union.
