Rupavahini Takhu
Rupavahini Takhu (รูปัวาหินี ตคุ) is since May 11, 2020, the de facto national television service of Chichetya, replacing the television service of Pangcheng Rissoma. Owned by the Chichetya Rūpavāhinī Corporation, its programming is limited and is mostly in the Chichetyan language, in contrast to PRTV whose service was mostly bilingual (Rissoman and sometimes English). The channel mostly shows the 6:50pm news from the Chichetyan channel while giving no news reports about the current state of Chichetya. Rupavahini produces news in English but doesn't carry it on its service.
It was heavily described by international transparency agencies as an "invasion of public Rissoman property", claiming Rissoma to be, in this scenario, "another Chichetyan province". Many people believe the replacment service to be temporary while some believe that this is actually permanent, and is also a violation of the rules of the Sondria-Northulic Broadcasting Union, of whom both the broadcasters involved in Chichetya (CRC and NBC) and Pangcheng Rissoma are members.
Usually the schedule follows the same pattern: the same opening sequence as the main Chichetyan channel, a simulcast of the 8pm news and the closing with the Chichetyan anthem Chichetya Matha.
Timeline[edit | edit source]
- Before 2008: The royal family reportedly picked up television signals from eastern Chichetya, these signals were powerfil signals from Rupavahini's network.
- April 22, 2020: When a report about Chichetya's treatment of Rissomans within Chichetya sparked a complaint in PRTV's main evening news, the National Broadcasting Corporation of Chichetya (NBC) issued a strike over the reports. In response, Pangcheng Rissoma released a song called "Our Lucky Sovereignty".
- May 9, 2020: Pangcheng Rissoma receives further notifications from the Chichetyans, related to the aforementioned song, which ironically had nothing to do with the report.
- May 10, 2020: In the morning, Pangcheng Rissoma announced that it was forbidden from carrying news (this clause was also applied to FM Takhu). In the evening the government shut down the local radio and television stations and PRTV was replaced by Rupavahini Takhu.
- May 11, 2020: Rupavahini Takhu begins an hour's worth of daily programming.
- May 13, 2020: Programming in Rissoman resumes as the channel is used by the Ministry of Education, who provided daily television classes in the last weeks of PRTV's existence.
- February 2022: Rupavahini moves its news to 6:50pm and adjusts the schedule of the Takhu station.
- July 1, 2022: The Chichetyan government rejects the shutdown of the three NBC radio services and the Rupavahini service.
- July 20, 2022: Rissomans call for action to restore Pangcheng Rissoma and start boycotting Rupavahini.
- October 6, 2022: Criticism emerges as Rupavahini Takhu airs uncensored footage of a massacre in a Rissoman village. Certain elements of the footage were censored due to international laws in opposition of violent content. So far Rupavahini hasn't received punishment from social media.
Programming[edit | edit source]
Much of the programming consists of relays of the 8pm news from Rupavahini Chichetya. Occasionally other programming, mostly from Chichetya, is broadcast. The Takhu center never produced programming, it simply generates a signal.
The channel operates five hours a day starting from 17:30.
Censorship[edit | edit source]
The CRC and NBC, both Chichetyan government bodies, are stricly forbidden to report about protests in both Chichetya and Rissoma, especially because of the Chichetyan interference over Rissoma. These two bodies also believe that Rissoma is a province of Chichetya, leading to massive uproar.
Commercial TV channels in Chichetya, blacked out by Rissoman cable operators (and replaced by Tangwan channels), deny the above claims, and believe that Rupavahini and NBC are broadcasting lies.
Carriage in Chichetya[edit | edit source]
Cable companies in Chichetya started carrying Rupavahini Takhu in October 2020, under the claims that Rissoma was Chichetyan.
