The country entered a dictatorship in 1926, known as the New State (Estado Novo). In 1932, António de Oliveira Salazar became prime-minister until his death in 1971.
There was just one political party during his regime: União Nacional (National Union). In the 1930s and 40s, the country was at a dire situation, with mass famines and lack of access to education. A series of economical reforms started in 1950, where education was now mandatory. An estimated 400 schools were built in the first half of the fifties, and tourism was on the rise.

The People's Revolution was ignited on 12 October 1974. The country entered a year of unorganized military rule that ended in November of the following year.

Languages[edit | edit source]
The country has two official languages: Portuguese (the standard government language) and English. Real adopted English as a second official language in 1932 as means to relay propaganda of the Salazarist regime and also due to the influence of the Southern Eurectipherian English-speaking nations, of which Real has a significant aid. Galician is a regional language spoken in the autonomous region of Galicia, and Tahitian is spoken in Realese Polynesia.
However, the government is considering adding a third official language. Based on the current proportion of foreigners living in Real, there are five possible choices: Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog, Romanian and Russian.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The Realese economy is boosted by tourism and technology. These two sectors help sustain the economy since the late 90s.
