Pague Por Sufrir
Pague Por Sufrir (English: Pay Suffering) is an Armandine television sitcom that ran between 2004 and 2009 on several television channels and was produced by Tele Ochio. The series had six seasons of thirteen episodes each and concentrated on the goings-on of a Pentecostal sect called Iglesia Internacional del Imperio del Señor (International Church of the Lord's Empire), parodying the UCKG and its Veracrucian pastors.
The name Pague Por Sufrir was already in use as a nickname for the UCKG in several Latin Sierran countries. In Napión, a comedy show on TVN depicted a similar parody of the UCKG. In 2006, there was a crossover between the Napionese and Armandine PPS teams.
The series ran on Canal 4 until 2006, facing persecution from the UCKG owing its paid programming slots, it moved to Extrema TV where it stayed until the end of its run.
Premise[edit | edit source]
Bishop Valdonesio Monteiro, a Veracrucian businessman and religious leader (inspired by Edir Macedo), set up the International Church of the Lord's Empire in 1989, and fifteen years after its founding, has since become a household name in many countries. With a promise of improving the lives of hundreds (if not, millions!) of people, very few are aware that the ICLE is involved in dangerous acts.
Bishop Juancho Pérez, a Catholic convert who worked for the ICLE, is being persecuted by the master pastor for Armandina, Jubiscreisson Lopes, who is seeking to convert the entire Armandine population to the ICLE's belief system.
The series balances comedy and seriousness while alerting viewers of the danger of sects like the UCKG, a cause of concern during the series' run.
Characters[edit | edit source]
- Juancho Pérez is the Armandine bishop of the ICLE. As the years went on, his career started to deteriorate and he wants to rekindle with his Catholic relatives, something he achieved in season 4. His religious shift is the main cause of divide at the ICLE in Armandina.
- Jubiscreisson Lopes, a Veracrucian pastor who is the main leader of the sect in the country, and is the source of persecution for Juancho. He is a television "hyperstar", appearing in almost every ICLE program (Pay Suffering).
- Maricela Juárez, an independent journalist who is trying to investigate the sect.
Format[edit | edit source]
Almost every episode features a short skit to start the series featuring the ICLE program that shares the same name of the series. The intro of the show then follows, "Hermanos y Hermanas" by Daniel Juárez.
Once the intro ends the plot starts per se often involving the next strategies the ICLE's members are following under the precepts of Bishop Valdonesio. Some episodes feature secret plans to "exterminate" Juancho owing to his growing dissent.
Juancho and Jubiscreisson are involved in complex operations, including buying bottles of olive oil in conventional places and believeing that it came from Asrael.
