PIKO is Ashtalaia's largest telecommunications company. The government owns 51% of its shares.

History[edit | edit source]

Prior to the 1974 coup, the state-run telecommunications company was the Ashtalaian Telephone Exchange Corporation (ATEC), founded after a post-war split from the Ashtalaian Post Office (APO). A new company was set up in 1975 (Telekom Aštalāija or Telecom Ashtalaia).

Adoption of the PIKO brand[edit | edit source]

AstaCom tested IPTV services in 2005 and unveiled the PIKO brand in 2006.

Services[edit | edit source]

Mobile[edit | edit source]

PIKO started its mobile services in 1990 as AstaSel (the name AshtaCell was Ashtalaianized due to laws of the time forbidding local company names to be written in English).
