News fasting
In South Arlesbury, news fasting is often a sign of protest against the general commercial media industry, resulting in a variable ban of news content that would run for days.
2011[edit | edit source]
In April 2011, the SABC announced all media outlets that April 22-24 would be a period of news fasting, replicating (in a way) the former practice of banning news on "sacred days" in the Michillies, in this case over the Easter weekend. All foreign news channels were authorized to show SABC 1's schedule, SABC News was forced to show old Bollywood films, unusual for a news channel.
June-July 2014[edit | edit source]
This was a partial period, as only Skyway Television was affected. This was because Skyway Television refused to buy the rights to air matches of the 2014 World Cup, held in South Bulungi, and in this case, Skyway Television was forced to abstain from sports news coverage on its two channels. This resulted in a series of protests against Skyway Television, also considering that South Arlesbury didn't even qualify for the World Cup.
2015[edit | edit source]
April 2-5. Here, all South Arlesburian channels were only forced to broadcast Easter-related content.
2018[edit | edit source]
21 days over January-February, but only for Skyway. A report from North Arlesbury's Four about an illegal act committed by the controversial Family Restoration Church was relayed on Skyway (with more censorship), and eventually led to censorship of the utterance of the name of its founder, Robert Addison. As such the FRC had to threaten Skyway for legal action and proceeded to take the channel off air for three weeks, in accordance with their Daniel fasting program where members of the church are discouraged from partaking in secular activities.
