Mondo Bizarro
Mondo Bizarro is an Flarlandian surreal comedy television series created by Richard Harris for Channel 14 as part of the network's iconic The Friday Show. Each episode (apart from two special episodes centered on the fictional Abomination of the Year Award) plays on a specific genre of films. The series is known for its dark, surreal humor and atmosphere.
Harris pitched the series to the channel's Television Academy, and a pilot (entitled "How to Make an Awful Iterian Horror Film a.k.a. The Making of Allegro Dementa") aired on Channel 14 in early 1996 alongside the film attached to it. The pilot was nominated for a Golden Globe, but lost to Sorted!. Channel 14 greenlit a series from the short, which premiered on November 12, 1999 and ended on November 22, 2002, with four seasons of 13 episodes each produced. During its run, the series was nominated for 3 Television Excellence Awards and 1 Couch Slave Award. The series received critical acclaim from critics and audiences and has developed a strong cult following. Spin-off media include home video releases. The show also began airing on Channel 14 (and formerly also on Channel A) as reruns.
