MBC 1 is the first national television channel owned and operated by the state-owned broadcaster Michillian Broadcasting Corporation. It was the first major television broadcaster in the Michillies, holding a complete monopoly on the television business until 1985.

It is estimated that 98.9% of Michillian households with a television have access to MBC 1. Over 50% of the channel's programming is local content.

1985-1994[edit | edit source]

Although the defeat of the Catholic government in the previous year was successful, it did not have a quick effect on television. By Easter 1985, an increasingly secularized Michillian society was still coping with a "backward" television service. The constant delays in the launch of TV Two (which ended up launching on July 25th) were also another reason why MBC Television was still facing a slow development.

The 1985-86 television season brought forth new programming and a massive change.

In 1989, even the deregulation of the media sector hit MBC Television hardly, with funding now being provided from Michillies on Air, which relied on the Broadcasting Fee until 1998.
