Knowledge TV is a Hopelandian educational television network, bought by Knowledge Works in 1999, after being an overseas affiliate of the Sierran channel of the same name.

History[edit | edit source]

Initially it acted as a Hopelandian branch of Mind Extension University. It was set up by the Jones Educational Corporation and had an estimated 60,000 viewers "tuning in" by satellite delivery to selected schools and universities nationwide. There was one terrestrial station in New Cardiff, the location was selected due to it being more "central" to the country.

In 1997, the channel was renamed Knowledge TV and was increasing its output of programs related in any way to new media and technology. In 1999, the Jones Educational Corporation decided to shut Knowledge TV down, by selling its operations in the USS to Discovery Communications. Its foreign operations in Hopeland and Eurectipheria are put at risk. Eventually, before Knowledge TV shut down in the USS, it was bought by non-profit "businessman" Joel E. Lilienkamp who managed to bring the channel back to its previous format, by setting up a "company" for the channel, Knowledge Works. The channel moved its headquarters to Boulder and signed a deal with Hopelandian Public Television to relay some of Knowledge TV's content on its network and allow Knowledge TV to air HPT productions on delay in exchange. Even under such arrangements the channel was now struggling.

Programming[edit | edit source]

Knowledge TV divides its schedule in three key segments: Education, Technology and Business. When the channel adopted its current name, it also relayed Eurectipherian newscasts from Étienne 1, Hartungische Welle and RAI 1 in their respective languages, as well as computer education programs and newscasts focusing on technology, from both the USA and Hopeland. These newscasts were dropped after the sale to Knowledge Works.

Carriage[edit | edit source]

Knowledge TV is available OTA on channel 53.2 in Albany and channel 20.2 in New Cardiff - the first is owned by Media Emancipation, a non-profit "public media for the public good" network (available nationwide as a superstation) and the second is a type B public television station owned by the University of New Cardiff, dependent on HPT but not owned by the federal government.
