IBS Mediacorp (formerly IBS Media) is a Solenian media company where 51% of the shares are owned by Lenaporean media conglomerate Mediacorp since 2017.

History[edit | edit source]

Troubled beginnings in radio and television[edit | edit source]

The Independent Broadcasting System was founded in June 1950 as Solenial's first commercial radio station. At the time, Solenial laws meant that the nature of the service had to fall under tougher regulations than the SRU-led SBC. The solution IBS found was to create "advertisement magazine" programs (also known as "admags") that were sponsored by a company and ran for no more than fifteen minutes.

The same problem was replicated upon IBS's arrival to television in 1958. The "admag" scheme was copied but even with such a system, ratings weren't going upward and would cause a problem within the corporation. IBS was at a standpoint in 1965 when the Solenian government legalized commercials in the conventional sense in 1965, and weren't oficially allowed until January 2, 1967. The previous day saw the last admags being transmitted on IBS Radio and IBS TV.

Quick success[edit | edit source]

The lifting of commercial restrictions in 1967 had led to IBS becoming more popular than SBC, even though SBC still had high membership numbers particularly coming in from the near-single narrowcaster, the SBU. Soon, IBS found its success with local shows and adaptations of international - as opposed to the ill-fated formula of imports and admags before then. IBS TV had beaten Solenial 1's ratings for the first time in 1968 when the Huasco City Olympics were pooled between the SBU and IBS (as IBS had successfully joined the Eurectipherian Broadcasting Union in the previous year) and the local adaptation of the Nashlandian game show The Golden Shot, that ran for another ten years.

Towards a new media industry[edit | edit source]

After nearly 40 years operating strictly on radio and television, IBS begins looking towards other media, particularly home entertainment (further boosted by the success of numerous Telekids spin-offs) and print media.

Mediacorp steps in[edit | edit source]

IBS had lost half of its stocks in 2016. In a surprise move, Mediacorp bought 51% of IBS Media in 2017. The company was renamed IBS Mediacorp. It is believed that, if the Eurectipherian Union approves the sale of the remaining 49% to Mediacorp, the company will be renamed Mediacorp Solenial (simply known as Mediacorp).
