FBC Panorama (sometimes simply known as Panorama) is a Flarlandian newscast. It is broadcast nationwide on FBC 1 and simultaneously on Flarland TV and some associated local and overseas channels at 7:30pm.

History[edit | edit source]

The first edition of Panorama was on October 1, 1950 at 8:30pm. Before launch, various companies wanted to bring their newsreels to television, but the FBC was against the idea. In April 1950, after receiving consultancy from the United States and Nashland, the FBC was tasked to create a newsreel, Panorama.

Panorama was a daily newsreel, similar to the one the NBS had from 1948 to 1954. Due to the pre-prepared nature of the newsreel, the length varied from five to fifteen minutes. At closedown, a reading of a script from FBC Radio's news at the time closest to its close time (sometimes coinciding with the top of the hour) was read over a static slide.

The FBC changed the structure of Panorama in 1952, dividing it in two programs. First, at 8pm, Panorama proper, followed at 8:10pm by the FBC Television Newsreel. Panorama initially was read out-of-vision in the new format, before opting for in-vision presenters in October 1952. The Television Newsreel was terminated in 1955 and filmed items were integrated in the main newscast. In subsequent years the FBC was forced to tone down the usage of music in filmed items, as it claimed it was clashing with the serious nature of the program. Such chaos led to the creation of a separate program for non-serious items, Charivari, in October 1955.
