Disney Channel (Hopeland)
Hopeland was the first country outside of the USS where a Disney Channel feed oficially launched. It is also available in Great Giana.
History[edit | edit source]
Upon founding, the channel didn't adopt the Sierran branding, but did had Zoog Disney and Vault Disney, with adapted branding. It was a premium television channel, like in other international feeds. The channel had a rapidly growing subscriber base during its first years. By 1999, it was Hopeland's most subscribed premium cable network, with over 60 million subscribers. A dedicated Toon Disney channel launched in October 1998.
On February 13, 2003, Disney Channel Hopeland became the first feed outside of thd United States to adopt the new look, designed by Razorfish and used worldwide. By this time the channel started to begin a slow push towards becoming a network aimed at kids rather than maintaining its family format. Since it was still a premium channel it still had an obligation to continue its old remit as a family network, especially since MTN Family - rebranded NBN Family - began to diverge from its old format and ownership.
In 2005, Disney Channel started becoming a basic cable network. This came at the same time where Disney was turning its channels into basic cable networks, while successfully narrowing the target demographics. Kingson, a basic cable channel that Disney bought from Hat Trick Productions in 2000, was becoming a terrestrial channel moving over to NBN's subchannels.
Disney Channel in Hopeland has been an ad-supported channel for longer than its Sierran counterpart, as it has been carrying advertisements since its inception.
