Comtam Cable was a Hopelandian subscription television company operated by Comtam between 1982 and 2012; the operations were later sold off to other companies.

History[edit | edit source]

Involvement in cable television[edit | edit source]

Comtam began its involvement with cable television in Hopeland in 1981, with trials consisting on the relays of the existing television channels in Albany as well as an information channel. In April 1982, Comtam bought four subscription television programming licenses. These services were launched in June 1982. By the end of the year Comtam was already carrying the nationwide satellite feed of HXP-TV on its few systems.

Expansion[edit | edit source]

Comtam's cable network expanded to virtually the entirety of the East Coast by 1984.

Comtam Digital[edit | edit source]

A digital cable service launched in June 1996, before its competitors did later in the same year. It drew from its interactive experiments from 1995.

Services at time of closure[edit | edit source]

Post-closure solutions[edit | edit source]

Following the shutdown of Comtam Cable, subscribers of the satellite service were either forced to switch to Primenet or Astro. Cable subscribers were recommended to switch over to Echo or local operators.
