Comport is the name given since 1998 to the Port Merwin Telecommunications Corporation (PMTC), set up in 1974. PMTC is owned by the Flarlandian Telecommunications Corporation since the inception of the current centralized corporation in 1991, itself owned by the Lenaporean telecoms giant Lentel.

As of now, Comport is headed towards a sale as Lentel is trying to quit the Lenaporean market, swapping its shares for telecom operators in the ASESON region.

History[edit | edit source]

The Flarlandians had built the telecommunication infrastructure in the 1930s, radio, telegraph and telephone. The Postal Services of Port Merwin (PSPM) held accountable for the telecommunication services until they were split in 1974 to create the Port Merwin Telecommunications Corporation (PMTC).

In November 1995 it made its first internet trials with help from Northulic Internet. At the same time, competing company Merwinian Broadcast Services wanted to start a similar service.

The operator changed its name to Comport on October 1, 1998, with the name being a clever usage of the term "communication port".

Early in 1999, Comport trialed a cable TV service with ten channels, the regular launch was held on March 4, 2001 with nineteen channels, with the aim of luring subscribers away from MBS.

After the buyout, Comport announced in February 2022 that it was going to shut down its cable TV service on March 31, 2022, and move to an entirely free terrestrial network after that date. Currently fifteen channels are provided under the service.
