Cody the Merman Prodigy is a Lenaporean coming-of-age television series produced by E-Studios for Excite. The series has been critically acclaimed by many, especially for a fairly recent channel, and an extension of the series, so far to 130 episodes, has been ordered.

The series stars Lincoln Shinkai as Cody, who turns 13 and is revealed to be a merman, as evidenced in the first story arc (what the series was before its unexpected extension). The series aired at 8:30pm three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), competing against Kin on Channel 5 during its run.

The series finished in January 2020 and in the same year reruns were shown as escapism

Plot[edit | edit source]

Cody Waterman is an adopted teenager who lives in Hamanashi. His birth mother is a mermaid called Leah (who has the role of "older sister" in the merworld). She was aware that Cody had an anomaly and had to be sent to the human world upon birth. He was then spotted by a fisherman, Parker Yeow (Tan Michael), who is obsessed with merpeople.

At the age of 12, Cody is a professional swimmer - a feat for a kid of his age, and has a girlfriend, Amanda (Leah Prao). He is under a lot of pressure from a big swim meet coming up and because he is failing biology, he is partnered with Milo (Hopelandian-Lenaporean actor Kwesi Aboadi), the class geek who is a marine biology expert.

After Cody's 13th birthday, he begins to feel strange. When he touches water, he becomes a merman, and memories of his birth flood his mind. Even without being in the water, he is able to have merman powers. It's his "new" life that confuses him, but nevertheless he enters a trip to reveal why he got a human avatar.

It is later revealed that Cody got a clone, a perfect human clone that confuses his family.

Characters[edit | edit source]

  • Cody (Lincoln Shinkai): The main character of the series. Some scenes feature one of the actor's merman friends, Tangwan merman Jhakai Makrong. At age 13, his human body is rather complex in function, to an extent where he feels more comfortable as a merman. His aging process stopped at age 13. He was a swimmer, but now he is questioning his life and is living a double life between land at sea.
  • Leah: Cody's biological "mother" (older sister).
