Cartoon Network Hopeland started broadcasting in 1993. Until 1995 it simply relayed the Sierran feed of Cartoon Network, like Latin Sierra at the time, and had two audio tracks, English and Spanish. The channel is also available in Great Giana.

History[edit | edit source]

Cartoon Network launched in Hopeland at about the same time as in Latin Sierra, in late April 1993. Until 1995, the channel was relaying the Sierran feed in English and Spanish - SAP being available in a handful of cable operators at the time - and some advertising was replaced with local commercials. In 1995, Cartoon Network Hopeland became a feed of its own.

The channel bought in some Hopelandian series to withstand a 20% limit in HopeCon regulations, it did help that Turner owned an animation studio in Hopeland (at the time Hanna-Barbera Hopeland) to assist in the creation of shows, starting 1998 they would be exclusive to Cartoon Network.

The channel normally followed the rebrand used by Cartoon Network in the United States. In October 2004, it became the first feed outside of the USS to adopt CN's new logo.

Programming[edit | edit source]

Blocks[edit | edit source]

  • Power Zone and Super Adventures: these were the predecessors of Toonami (more specifically the Sierran and Hopelandian action cartoons that would be featured in it).
  • Talisman: aired dubbed anime series (some dubs were Hopelandian) between 1998 and 1999. Later it merged with Super Adventures to create a new block, Toonami (see below).
  • Toonami: ran from 1999 to 2008, and it evolved from two programming blocks, Power Zone featuring Sierran and Hopelandian action series and Talisman featuring dubbed anime. Unlike the Latin Sierran Toonami, it adopted the same looks as its Sierran counterpart. In October 2008 the block was cancelled, being replaced by You Are Here, a more "kid-friendly" block that barely lasted a year, and ran on Fridays, as opposed to Saturdays. The block was revived by Adult Swim in 2012.
  • Adult Swim: First shown in November 2001. In 2007, the HCC declared Adult Swim to be a channel of its own, meaning that Turner has to legally "hand over" to said service. A 24-hour Adult Swim channel launched in Hopeland on basic tiers of cable operators in 2019, however the programming of the block has since become a simulcast of the channel. It is unknown if Turner will remove the block from CN's schedule.
  • Cartoon Cartoon Fridays: In September 1999, Cartoon Network Hopeland premiered a local version of CCF, featuring local television presenters in the live-action segments during its initial phase. It later followed the pattern of the Sierran version, with cartoons "hosting" the show. There barely was any third-party programming until the block's last months, with the only such show being What's New, Scooby-Doo?. The block ran for four years.
  • Cartoon Olio: short-lived themed programming block that ran on weekend afternoons in 2002-2003, imported from the Sierran feed.
  • Fridays: Cartoon Cartoon Fridays was replaced in October 2003 by a local version of Fridays, featuring the same aesthetic as its Sierran counterpart, and two local hosts: Adofu "AJ" James and Joanna Atkins. On occasions, Adofu was replaced by his younger brother Cody. Some segments were imported from the Sierran version of the show. It was cancelled in April 2007 due to declining ratings.
  • Tickle-U: Ran between August 2005 and April 2006. Until December 2005 it ran for two hours and also included a few live-action puppet series, those being Elmo's World (didn't run on Noggin at the time), Knowledge World (from [[Hopelandian Public Television) and Bobby's World Tour. In December, while Tickle-U was cancelled in the USS, it was cut in half and consisted of just Hopelandian shows. After its cancellation the network still ran Firehouse Tales and Bobby's World Tour, those ran for a few more weeks.
  • Fried Dynamite: Ran between September 2007 and April 2008 and was imported from the Sierran feed. There was also a summer edition. Cody James was a regular host. It was cancelled due to dwindling ratings.
  • CN Real: CN Real ran for two weeks and later got cancelled, however the shows that made it up continued to be on the channel for a few months. If the block was going to be successful, one of the slots had to be replaced by a locally-made show for the block. By the time the last CN Real shows had left the schedule, the only live-action series the channel was airing were Tower Prep (also broadcast on the OK Network in 2012) and Level Up. Unnatural History was only shown on Syfy Hopeland.
  • Old School: Ran between 2013 and 2014, and was similar to Cartoon Pop on the Latin Sierran feeds of the channel. The block was shown between 2 and 4pm and featured reruns of first-generation Cartoon Network originals (the so-called "Cartoon Cartoons"). When the block ended its run, the shows were still a part of the regular schedule.

Currently the network no longer has blocks.

Website[edit | edit source]

Cartoon Network Hopeland launched its website in October 1998. The website followed the same pattern as the Sierran and Bensonian versions. The first massive rebrand was in October 2002, where the site introduced a local version of Cartoon Orbit - the only such version outside of the USS.
