The Blessed Action Channel (شبكة العمل المباركة, Shabakat Aleamal Al-Mubaraka) was the first television channel in Plenestine, founded in 1959 and disbanded in 1993.

History[edit | edit source]

Although Asrael didn't have television until 1965, Plenestine had established a television service in 1959 under the name Plenestine Television Service. Shortly before it shut down operations, it was renamed Blessed Action Channel to coincide with its launch on satellite in 1991.

The channel was regularly available in parts of Asrael, however the government widely cried fowl upon the reception of these signals. People with more powerful antennas were able to receive signals from Libonesia and Masria, but PTS/PTB, due to the conflict, was often considered as "vile" by policy makers.

In December 1993, the Sierran armed forces decided to shut BAC. Plenestine was deprived of having any television services at all until 1999, when the Plenestine Satellite Channel started operations. Unlike the BAC it doesn't depend on terrestrial transmissions.

Programs[edit | edit source]

  • World Facts at Night: primetime international news program, shown nightly on the channel from 1965 to 1993.

Controversies[edit | edit source]

Eurectivision controversy[edit | edit source]

The Blessed Action Channel, then known under the legal English name of Plenestine Television Broadcasting (PTB) joined the EBU in 1962, yet it was creating massive controversy due to the disputes with Asrael.

Within the start of its operation at the EBU, the Asraeli Broadcasting Authority saw this opportunity with bad eyes and had to take a decision in Valeria about the future of Asrael in the organization.

Most members unilaterally voted in favor of Asraeli presence at the EBU in November 1962. Asrael wouldn't start its television service until 1964.
