Biggest Deal
Biggest Deal (styled either Bigge$t Deal or Biggest D£al depending on the currency in use in the country of adaptation) is a Michillian reality television format that was produced by Endemol Michillies and premiered on Channel A in February 2017, as a failed attempt to return to the format by making more house-related programs.
Although the first season was successful, international versions of the format failed to perform and the format was canceled worldwide until new interest is taken by another broadcaster.
Concept[edit | edit source]
A group of sixteen people (in the Michillian version: eight anonymous contestants and eight celebrities; other versions: all contestants are celebrities) live in a house divided into four compartments. The contestants are divided into four teams of four celebrities each, with the aim of running a business. A team led by executive producers from Endemol will select who will run who: the pizzeria (or a standard restaurant in some versions), a bed and breakfast, a car wash center and a beauty salon. The money will be collected to individuals who visit the premises are evaluated based on their work results through the official app.
Background[edit | edit source]
The concept was pitched by TVA in 2015 as means to return to the reality show market. TVA had abandoned reality show production in 2009 when the last season of Survivor Michillies recorded in Namu Labaki was produced. The production of a new reality show, specifically a house-related concept similar to Big Brother, was met with divided opinions within TVA and said that it would ruin an internal philosophy.
The show eventually got greenlighted and the house was built in late 2016. Initially scheduled to premiere in January, it was later delayed to February 22 due to internal meddling (the channel was rebranding and the new promise was to premiere following February 20).
Despite high interest in the first series, its second series was plagued by low viewing figures and Channel A was not interested in airing reality formats again, thus leading to its cancelation.
