Azteca Visión is one of Hopeland's three major commercial Spanish-language television networks, owned by Grupo Azteca.

The network is generally viewed as "inferior" to Telemetro and far behind longtime market leader Antena Latina for most of its existence; its lack of physical terrestrial licenses has forced it to rely on subchannels of Hispanic network affiliates.

History[edit | edit source]

Telecentro[edit | edit source]

HXTC-TV, known on-air as Telecentro, one of Hopeland's oldest Hispanic television stations, signed on in 1959 in the city of New Illimani, on channel 7. Network divergences in 1993 have led to Telecentro drop its potential affiliation with Antena Latina to an English-language UHF independent and another independent one in Spanish. This three-way affiliation switch gave Telecentro a chance to become a regional, later national, superstation.

Telecentro as an independent station focused more on television series from Concepción and Astiniria, as well as a handful of SBC soap operas in Spanish. Its news operation was still concentrating on the region of New Illimani, yet the ambition was to build a new national network. Part of the reason was the setup of Telemetro in 1991.

Telecentro became a full-fledged nationwide television network in 1996. The network's afiiliate body was significantly reduced, as most of its stations were UHF independents who, in the past, were affiliated to pay-TV systems and were on the verge of bankruptcy. The network dedicated nearly half of its networked schedule to news and current affairs programming by signing a deal with Radio La Opinión to use its newsreaders and adapt its programming to television.
