Arorangi
Arorangi is an island north-east of the island of Porowon (and most of the country itself). It has been a banja of Porowon since 1957 and obtained self-governing status in 1972.
History[edit | edit source]
Pre-1956[edit | edit source]
Arorangi as a banja of Porowon[edit | edit source]
As part of Taro Nishimoto's plans to make the country more efficient, he introduced a banja system. While the borders were still being equationed in the main island of Porowon, the government conceded the division of the country into the banja of Porowon and the banja of Arorangi, the only one outside of the island until 1961. Control of Arorangi was still largely dependent from Porowon. The banja was created in June 1956 - up until then it was part of the "de facto" banja of Porowon.
Arorangi under autonomous rule[edit | edit source]
In 1972, the government of Porowon decided to concede autonomous rule to Arorangi. This means that Arorangi is considered to be a "separate country" within Porowon, and doesn't have a direct connection to the central government. The main reason was that the banjas on the main island were unable to have assistance in Arorangi.
In the late 90s, Arorangi was repositioned as an indigenous banja, compared to the multicultural banjas on the mainland, segregated by race. The older Arorangian values of self-sustainability and unity were reintroudced.
