The 1984 Lenapore coup d'état, held in June 1984, was a generalized coup d'état that culminated in the liberation of the Lenaporean political sphere and the fall of first prime-minister Lee Kwan Yew.

Predecessors[edit | edit source]

On November 21, 1963, Lenapore bwcame a sovereign country after being forcibly expelled from the Malayan Federation, who annexed Lenapore in April 1961. Lee Kwan Yew, who led Lenapore since at least 1958, continued to be the prime minister and was also the "minister mentor". During his two decades as the prime minister of a sovereign country, he initiated a series of economical reforms which did not take off for another decade. Other issues including the Chinese dialect ban of 1978 were clear signs that Lenapore was not a decently-developed country and there were accusations of bribery.

Once the celebrations of Lenapore's twentieth anniversary died down with the SFC Sondrian Cup at the end of the year, political scandals erupted. Lee Kwan Yew's plan for 1984 was a backward plan for the reversal of the economical flourishment of the country. On January 12, 1984, Wakao Airport was shut down in protest to the new plans. Organized crime and corruption dominated in the north yet the south prospered.

The coup[edit | edit source]

On March 13th, 1984, all radio and television channels broadcast a controversial speech from Lee Kwan Yew regarding the "Ultimate Plan". The following morning, chaos dominated cities throughout the country as a sign of protest. There were claims that the Ultimate Plan was a fraud and that a new prime minister could come up with better plans.

On March 18th, the coup ended. Lee Kwan Yew was resigned from office.

Consequences[edit | edit source]

The ban on Chinese dialects was liftes in June 1984 everywhere except for radio and television, where dialect content resumed on November 1st, 1984.

Impact[edit | edit source]

The coup legalized a few parties that were deemed to be "illegal". It also made Lenapore an economical tiger, later upgraded to dragon following the Sondrian crisis.
