OTT

OTT (the initials of the former legal name Omdalski Telefon in Telegraf, literally "Omdalian Telephone and Telegraph") is an Omdalian telecommunications company owned in parts by the Omdalian state, Ashtalaian telecommunications operator PIKO, and formerly the FTC. The OTT Group (Grupa OTT) operates in Omdalia, elsewhere it operates in Vydoria (and Jeznogoria), Ashtalaia, Tarania, Chemheria and Karazhunia. The company is the largest in its sector in Omdalia.

OTT has been listed in the New Constitution Stock Exchange NKSE 40 since the mid-90s.

History[edit | edit source]

In 1885, the first telephone experiments took place in Omdalia with the Nashlandian-Flarlandian Telephone Company, two years later, the Omdalian branch was split up.

In 1990, the Omdalian government decided to formally split the postal and telecommunications corporations in two, with the OPTT becoming the OTT. The new structure also led to the creation of Omdalska Teledifuzija (OTD), formerly used by TVO (ORT) to broadcast its channels, as a joint-venture between the several terrestrial broadcasting companies.

OTT Telekom was the only telephone operator in Omdalia, being a monopoly, until 1994, when the government gradually reduced its control over the corporation. In 2000, OTT became a publicly owned company.

A failed bid in 2007 caused OTT to sell its shares in the Omdalian cable companies. This coincided with the start of its IPTV project, publicly launched in June 2007 as Gala.

On December 20, 2013, the group announced that it was going to unify all of its services under the OTT brand. The rebrand took to effect on January 27, 2014.

Following the 2017 formal referendum of Jaheria's cessation as an independent state, the OTT group took over the total control of Telekom Jaherija.

OTT was partly nationalized again in 2022.
